Please note that in order to be eligible for the study you must satisfy ALL study criteria.
How can I be part of the Research study? 1. Read through the eligibility criteria for the study under the PhD Research Tab on this website to see if you satisfy the study criteria.
2. If you think you satisfy the relevant inclusion criteria bring a copy of the research study criteria to your GP or Neurologist (also available under the PhD Research Tab) and ask them for a letter stating your diagnosis of migraine and noting that they are satisfied that you do indeed meet the study inclusion and exclusion criteria.
3. Send a a copy of your letter from your GP or neurologist along with your contact details including your email address and telephone number to Niamh Flynn, Suite 29 Floor 2, The Galway Clinic, Doughiska, Galway. Alternatively you can fax the letter and contact details to 091 720146.
4. If you are accepted on to the research study you will receive an email within two weeks of submission of the letter from your GP or neurologist.
How much does it cost to be part of the PhD research study if I am accepted? If you are accepted on to the research study there is no charge to you. You will be responsible for your own travel costs to the initial and subsequent meeting in Galway.
Will I be paid to be part of the research study? No. You will not be paid for the research study. Both those who are in the control group and in the intervention group however will have access to the mp3s and they will be entitled to keep those mp3s free of charge.
If I take part in the study what will I be asked to do? Once your neurologist or pain specialist has decided that you satisfy the criteria for migraine diagnosis and that you meet the criteria for inclusion in this study, if you agree to participate, numbers permitting, you will meet with the researcher prior to the study. At this time you will be provided with a consent form and any further questions you may have regarding the project will be answered. You will be requested not to participate in other research interventions while participating in this programme.
The online study will take place over six weeks. You will be asked to complete a survey each week, once a week for six weeks. On week three of the study you will be divided into one of two groups. One group will be given access to hypnosis mp3s specifically designed to alleviate migraine severity and frequency and to help with your migraines. The other group will receive the same mp3s two months after the six week study. Everyone who completes the study in full will receive all mp3s which were designed as part of the PhD research study.
I have checked the eligibility criteria for the study. I am satisfied that I qualify for the study. What do I do next? Follow steps 1 to 4 above.
When does the study start? Participants who are eligible to take part in the study will meet with the researcher on March 26th, March 27th and March 29th 2013 in a group for a half hour meeting. The study will commence online on April 7th 2013
